About

Annie McDougall is a fiddler, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist rooted in the folk traditions of New England and the wider American roots music landscape. Known for her warm, lyrical fiddling and deep sense of groove, Annie moves fluidly between old-time, bluegrass, and original songcraft, bringing a grounded, generous musical presence to every setting she inhabits.

Raised in a world of classical music, Annie spent her early years immersed in chamber ensembles, youth orchestras, and rigorous classical training, building a deep technical foundation and sensitivity to playing with others. It wasn't until her year at Boston Conservatory that she encountered the folk music community for the first time. Participation in Bruce Molsky's old-time ensemble proved transformative-- and an experience that lit a spark and revealed a musical home she hadn't known she was searching for. That moment led Annie to transfer to Berklee College of Music, where she shifted her focus entirely toward folk fiddle and songwriting, and began shaping the tradition-informed, community-centered approach that defines her music today.

Annie is in demand as a performer and collaborator, appearing in settings ranging from Bluegrass and folk festival stages to contradances, listening rooms and concert halls. She is a founding member of All She Wrote, a whimsical, heartfelt trio rooted in bluegrass, folk, Americana, and old-time music, and is also an active member of the high-flying, groovy contradance trio Here On The Hill. Annie performs regularly as a solo artist and in duo and ensemble projects, and her playing and singing have been heard at festivals and venues across the Northeast and beyond.

Alongside her work as a performer, Annie is increasingly drawn to teaching and mentorship, inspired by the deeply meaningful educational experiences she has had so far. She has led workshops in community-based learning settings and leads a small private studio, where she provides one-on-one lessons in fiddle, voice, and banjo. Whether onstage, in a classroom, or in a late-night jam, Annie approaches music as a shared language- one that invites curiosity, creativity, and a sense of belonging.
